Day One Photo Coverage: Saturday

Victor and I went down to the Mall today to get a bearing on the events of the next few days. We both took the Metro to the Smithsonian station to check out the crowds and preparations.

Some observations:

-It seems like every single news station in America sent at least one camera crew to DC. The larger networks all had booms (see Victor's blog post from earlier today) twenty feet in the air. If you flip on CNN/MSNBC/ABC/FOX/CBS, you'll probably see a nice panning shot of the Mall taken from one of these booms. It was sort of fun to just sit back and watch all these cameras swooping around in the air. We also saw quite a few (maybe 10?) reporter/cameraman pairs recording spots for their respective stations.

-Lots of Jumbotrons were set out all over the mall. The one directly in front of the Capitol building was tuned into ESPN; sorta cool to watch a basketball game on the lawn of the Capitol.

-I've never seen so many Porta-Johns in my life.

-It started to get dark, so Victor and I got back on the Metro to head home. The crowd waiting for the train rivaled any rush-hour crowd I've experienced on the Metro since I moved to DC last year. An omen of what's to come?

Lastly, I created a short photo presentation of today's events on the main Pitt news Inauguration page. Enjoy!
